LILY

EXTERIOR PARK - AFTERNOON
SCENE 1

(We see two small kids at the park. One is a girl sliding down slides with a nice dress on, while a small flower crown rests on her head. The boy who is just sitting in a swing, reading a Magic Treehouse book, is wearing jeans, a regular T-shirt, and some Converse. After a bit, the girl gets bored playing by herself and walks up to the boy. At first, the boy just ignores her, hoping she'd go away so he could finish reading the book. Once he realizes that she won't go away, he bends the corner of the page before closing his book and looks up at her.

The girl smiles and shoves her hand towards him)

LILY

Hi! I'm Lily!

 HARRY

        (Reluctantly he grabs her hand, shakes it gently, then puts his hand back on his lap)

I'm Harry.

                             

 LILY
                    (Nodding slightly, not bothered by Harry's attitude)

Why are you reading? Is it because of school? I hate reading, (Lily furrows her eyebrows, frustrated with herself)  when I read the words get jumbled together and I say the words wrong. Reading is horrible. So is school, but my mommy says I have to go to school to grow up smart.

                      
                      (Not knowing what to do, Harry just continues to look at Lily, waiting for her to talk again)

Anyway, It's nice meeting you Harry. I was wondering if you wanted to come build a sandcastle with me? I know that since the sand isn't wet it won't stay up, but we can still play.

              (Once again Harry didn't speak up, he just looked down at the book that was resting on his lap. Lily waits a couple of seconds before taking Harry's hand and pulls him towards the sand. Harry tenses a bit before relaxing and letting go of his book so it would land on the  soft ground near the swing. Lily is pulling him across the playground awhile Harry is reluctantly following)

It'll be fun! I pinky promise!

(The screen goes black for a couple of minutes before pictures flash by. In each picture that comes on both look a bit older. One video in particular stands out, It's Harry and Lily in front of the park they met, both look to be seven years old again. Harry's mom is heard telling the kids to scoot in closer together. "Harry get closer to your new friend". As soon as the mom takes the picture, the picture pops up into the screen for the audience to see. The whole time the pictures are coming on the screen, the names of the main characters and actors are being displayed.

After the last picture goes up, the screen goes black again, transitioning from scene one into scene two)

EXTERIOR LILY'S HOUSE - DAY
SCENE TWO

(It was a nice day out, the sun was out and the birds were practically singing, the mood however is somber. Lily was holding onto a small suitcase, a teddy bear, and sweater while waiting by the car. It was obvious some time had gone by and Lily and Harry were older. Harry being eleven and Lily being ten)

HARRY
(Barely above a whisper, Harry is hugging himself and trying not to cry)

Do you really have to go? Can't you stay? I'm sure my mom would be fine with you living with us.

(Lily let's out a small chuckle, she's having a harder time hiding her tears. She looks back at the house she's been living in since as long as she can remember. However, now there was a big 'For Sale' sign sitting in the front yard. Lily closes her eyes tightly before looking back up at Harry)

LILY
Yeah, I have to go. I think I'd miss my mom too much if I were to stay here.

HARRY
But I'll miss you too much if you go.

(Lily looks down at the floor, biting her lip to try and stop herself from crying. She looks back up again when she hears sniffling. She sees Harry wipe his nose a bit. Harry is crying, and that's when Lily starts to cry. She opens her mouth to start talking when her mom tells her to say goodbye to Harry so that they can get on the road. Lily looks at her mom, nods, then looks back to Harry. She takes a step closer to him, just wanting to hug him.)

LILY
So I guess this is goodbye then.

HARRY
I guess so.

(Harry sniffles one more time before hugging Lily, Lily drops the stuff in her hands and hugs back just as enthusiastically as Harry did. The hug lasts a bit before Harry pulls away. He turns around and starts walking away. When he's halfway across the abandoned street he hears Lily call out 'wait'. Lily looks both ways before running up to him. She stands in front of him, completely silent before she grabs the flower crown atop of her hair and puts it on Harry’s head. She hugs him tightly one more time before running back to the car and getting in. Harry stands in the middle of the street as he sees them drive away. We see Harry pull out a small paper out of his pocket before shoving it back in. He takes a deep breath and starts walking home)

AGES 16-17
INTERIOR HIGH SCHOOL - DAY
SCENE 3

(Scene starts off in a classroom, in the bottom of the screen ‘SIX YEARS LATER’ pops up. There's a teacher in the front next to the whiteboard, which says 'WELCOME BACK'. The teacher said a simple greeting before taking attendance. Harry zones out for a while until he hears his name)

TEACHER
Harry?

HARRY
(Blushing for no reason, Harry raises his hand before mumbling and stuttering out a sentence)

A-actually - uhm- I go by m-my middle name now. A-Alexander or Alex.                             

(Harry blushes harder. Looking down at his hands and fiddling with the hem of his shirt. Harry zones out again until halfway through the class period when the door opens)

LILY
                        (Panting, out of breath as if she had just ran, she enters the room)

Hi! I'm sorry I'm late, I just got lost trying to find the class.

TEACHER

It's fine, I understand. Are you new?

(Instead of answering, Lily just nods, trying to regain her breath)

What's your name?

LILY
(Smiling, breathes in slightly before talking normally)
I'm Lily.

(Harry's head snapped up when he heard the name. He was gaping at her for a few seconds before realizing he was staring. Lily was wearing a nice summer dress, some flats, and a flower crown. The teacher nods slightly then tells Lily to sit anywhere. Lily looks around the classroom and decides to sit in the front near Harry. The teacher starts to talk again, but you can barely hear him. His voice is muffled and low. Harry stares at Lily for the remainder of the period, too shell shocked to pay attention)

INTERIOR LUNCHROOM - AFTERNOON

SCENE 4

(Harry is sitting at his table, ignoring his lunch food, while staring at Lily who’s across the room. She’s wearing a nice top, some light colored jeans, and like always, there’s a flower crown on her head. Harry smiles a bit when she starts laughing, he then flinches when the boy next to him starts talking)

ANDREW

Dude, you’ve been staring at her for the past month, why don’t you just go up to her and say hi or something?

(Harry blushes, embarrassed that he got caught staring. Stuttering he looks at Andrew before looking back at Lily)

HARRY

I-I can’t do that Andrew, have you met me? (Eyebrows furrowed and looking annoyed with himself) I stutter a-all the time and sometimes I don’t even know how t-to talk.

ANDREW

(Rolls his eyes, takes a bite out of his sandwich, talks after he finishes swallowing)

She’s in your Chemistry class, right?

(Harry nods, finally looking at Andrew as he talks)

Well, why don’t you go up to her, ask her about what you guys did or something like that. She seems like a sweet girl, just go talk to her. Honestly, what’s the worst that can happen?

(Harry looks towards Lily and bites his lip, contemplating whether or not he should go. Looking down at his plate he gives a small nod, pushes his plate away, then slowly gets out of his seat)

ANDREW

(Smiles and takes a bite from his food, talking with some food still in his mouth)

Alright, you go Alex! Proud of you man!

(Harry rolls his eyes fondly and continues to sluggishly walk towards Lily. When he gets to her he looks sad, she doesn’t notice him at first. Harry changes his mind quickly and starts to walk back to his seat when Lily finally turns around)

LILY

Oh, Alex right?

(At first Harry is happy that she noticed him, then he frowns a bit because she didn't recognize him, how did she not remember? He didn't want to say anything so he just nods. Lily smiles bigger, giving him her full attention. Like she was seven again, Lily sticks her hand out towards him)

Well, It's nice to meet you, I'm Lily!

(Lily and Harry shake hands, Harry blushes slightly but he still smiles, feeling nostalgic because it was like they were meeting for the first time again. Lily looks up at him, then scoots over in her seat)

Do you wanna sit? Alice and I were just talking about how ridiculous the chemistry test we just took was.

(Harry looks at Andrew, unsure of what to do. Andrew looks back at Harry, mouth full with food, he gives Harry a closed mouth smile and two thumbs up. Harry gives a lopsided smile before looking back down to Lily and nodding. Sitting down carefully as to not bump into her, Harry settles into his seat, feeling awkward and uncomfortable. He looks down at his hands and blushes, asking himself why he’s sitting here, telling himself he shouldn’t have done that. Lily and Alice’s talk starts to fade out and the screen mainly focuses on Lily and Harry. Lily smiles then laughs at what Alice says. The sound of Lily’s laugh relaxes Harry, he smiles to himself before relaxing, getting comfortable in the chair. The scene ends with the screen blacking out, signaling the transition to the next scene)

EXTERIOR SIDEWALK - NIGHT

SCENE 5

(Harry and Lily are walking in the mall, talking about the movie they just watched)

LILY

The movie wasn’t that good, I think the first movie was much better. They just tried to continue the story but it just ruined it in the end.

(Harry was watching Lily shiver from the cold)

HARRY

Yeah. I-I think they shouldn’t have made the second one.

(Lily just nods, showing that she agrees with Harry. After a couple seconds of silence Lily shivers again and hugs herself. Harry takes off his sweater to give to Lily. When he wraps the sweater around her shoulders, Lily blushes and moves to fix her flower crown)

LILY

Thank you for coming today. I know it was last minute when I called you earlier, Alice had promised that she’d take me but she couldn’t, and I kind of really wanted to see the movie. Anyway, thank you. It means a lot.

(Harry looks at Lily, smiles slightly before looking down for second, then looking ahead of him)

HARRY

It’s n-no problem, I had fun. I didn’t have anything to do today anyway.

(Lily and Harry chuckled lightly, smiling. Lily scoots closer to him, stopping him from walking further. She hugs him quickly, lets go, then continues walking again)

LILY

Thank you for being such a good friend, even though we’ve only known each other for a few weeks.

(Harry smiles and blushes. He gives her a small nod and continues walking with her. The scene then changes to Lily’s house)

INTERIOR LILY’S ROOM - DAY

SCENE 6

(Lily is on the phone with Harry, she’s balancing the phone between her ear and her shoulder. She enters her room with a box labeled ‘LILY’S ROOM’)

LILY

Alexander whatever-your-middle-name-is Huxley, you know that I would love to come over and binge watch the newest show you’re obsessed with, but I have to finish unpacking. It’s my last box, it won’t take long and if you still want me to come over once I’m done, then I will.

(Lily smiles when she hears him chuckle, she begins to take stuff out of the box when the screen changes to Harry’s room)

INTERIOR HARRY’S ROOM - SAME DAY

(Harry is laying on is bed, playing with the hem of his shirt, smiling into the phone)

HARRY
Alright, fine. Y-You can come over once you’re done. Have fun unpacking Lil’s, I’ll be waiting for you with popcorn.

(Harry chuckles again, the screen then switches back to Lily)

INTERIOR LILY’S ROOM - SAME DAY

(Lily smiles, says a quick goodbye, then hangs up. We see her slowly put everything where it's supposed to go, when she pulls out an old picture. She looks at the picture for a bit before grabbing her keys and running out of the room. Scene changes to Lily knocking on Harry's house door, Harry's Mom opens the door and smiles at Lily)

HARRY'S MOM

Oh hi Lily! I wasn't expecting you, how are you?

(Lily smiles politely, trying not to come off as rude)

LILY

Hi Mrs. Huxley, I'm fine thank you for asking. Do you mind if I go and talk to Alex really quickly?

(Lily is practically bouncing, impatient. Harry's mom smiles and nods, moving to the side to let Lily in. Lily thanks her quietly before walking towards Harry room. She knocks on Harry's door before walking in, Harry jumps at the sudden intrusion. Harry was laying down, and now he's standing)

HARRY

Lily? W-What are you doing here? Are you done unpacking a-already?

(Lily shoves Harry a bit, getting riled up)

LILY

Why have you been lying to me? Huh? Is this some sick joke to you? Why'd you tell me your name was Alex, Harry! Why have you been lying?!

(Harry is shocked, uncomfortable, and he’s trying to cling to himself)

HARRY

W-What are you t-talking about? W-What did I lie a-about?

(Lily shoves the picture she found earlier in Harry’s face, she’s shaking and on the verge of crying)

LILY

(Lily suddenly speaks softly, as if trying to cover the pain in her tears)

Did you know?

(Trying to disappear, Harry hugs himself tighter and nods)

LILY

So you have been lying?! What’s the point? Get me to be your friend? Make me have feelings for you? Make me fall for you and then break my heart?! Then what? Make fun of me for being stupid?! What the hell Alex?! Or should I say Harry?

(Harry is upset, he opens his mouth then closes it again not knowing what to say. He walks to his closet and pulls out a small box, he puts the box on his but and softly uncaps it. Inside the box was pictures and toys. On the top was the flower crown Lily gave him and a crumpled piece of paper. Harry takes a deep breath in then turns around and gives Lily the note)

LILY

(Whispers)

What is this?

HARRY

Just - just read it.

(Lily opens the note and reads it, Harry just stares at her until she finishes)

LILY

(Not whispering anymore)

Is this supposed to make me feel better?  What does this even mean Harry? What am I supposed-

(Lily stops talking when she feels Harry’s hands on her cheeks, her breath starts to accelerate, she begins to whisper again)

Harry, what are you doing?

(Harry is inches from her face when he responds)

HARRY

I-I don’t know.

(Harry leans in closer, their lips almost touching, when the screen goes black and credits start to roll)
